Bible Study

Father

We use the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible that presents the written Word of God in a highly readable and accurate translation. This includes extensive study notes, topical essays and word studies that provide fresh and faithful insights informed by time-tested, authentically Catholic interpretations from the Fathers of the Church and other scholars. Commentaries include the best insights of ancient, medieval and modern scholarship, and follow the Church’s guidelines for biblical interpretation. Each New Testament book is outlined and introduced with an essay covering questions of authorship, date of composition, intended audience and general themes. Currently we are studying the Gospel of Luke.

Anyone can join this bible study! You are encouraged to bring friends and family who have fallen away from the Church or those who are Non-Catholic as this is the study of the Word of God.

The meetings are scheduled to run bi-weekly:

  • Sunday evenings at Rose LaNeve’s house led by Rose at 7:00 pm
  • Monday evenings at Our Lady of Mercy Church led by Jay & Jonah Perdue at 7:00 pm
  • Tuesday afternoons at St. Peter Parish led by Marianne Francis at 1:00 pm

If it were given to a man to see virtue’s reward in the next world, he would occupy his intellect, memory and will in nothing but good works, careless of danger or fatigue.

Eucharistic Adoration

 Dennis Schwind

Adoration is the first attitude of man acknowledging that he is a creature before his Creator. It exalts the greatness of the Lord who made us and the almighty power of the Savior who sets us free from evil. Adoration is homage of the spirit to the “King of Glory,” respectful silence in the presence of the “ever greater” God. Adoration of the thrice-holy and sovereign God of love blends with humility and gives assurance to our supplications. —Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2628

We invite new adorers to sign up for an hour of Eucharistic Adoration at a time that fits your schedule. You may bring your own prayer books, use the books in the chapel, read the Bible, pray the rosary, or just sit and relax and enjoy the peace that comes from simply being in the Presence of God. The mere fact that you take time each week to spend an hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament pleases Him very much and is in itself a prayer of great faith.

Please call Dennis Schwind if you would like to commit to one hour a week with Jesus.

Teach us to give and not count the cost.

~ St. Ignatius de Loyola

Funeral Dinners

Lois Grime and Chris Lopez

The gathering after a funeral is a good opportunity for people to spend time together and remember the person who passed on. Funerals often bring people together who may not have seen each other in some time, and this provides an opportunity for people to reconnect and support each other.

Anyone is welcomed and encouraged to help!

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)

Please contact Lois Grime and Chris Lopez  if you are able to donate a dish, help serve, or help prepare the funeral meal.

Greeters – Liturgy

Father

Greeting people at the Church door is a beautiful way to begin the ministry of hospitality. We all want to feel at home, having someone meet us, smile at us, reach out a hand and say a word of welcome. This usually puts us at ease and makes us feel a special part of the congregation. We feel we belong. The act of showing hospitality is described throughout the bible. As Roman Catholic Christians we’ve heard stories of people who offered hospitality to beggars, strangers, children, and lepers – only to discover that the person they welcomed so warmly was the Lord!

Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” We are all children of God and you are invited to help share this gift with others.

Lectors – Liturgy

Father

When we gather at Saint Peter Parish in His name, we encounter God in the proclamation of the Word of God. The person doing the proclaiming is an Official Church Minister. There are certain guidelines that have been set forth to govern the Readers. In the past, God spoke through His Prophets, Evangelists, and Apostles. Today He needs us – you and me – to speak for Him.
  • If you are willing to bring God into the assembly through the words you are asked to read . . .
  • If you are willing to acquire the skills necessary for proclaiming the Word . . .
  • If you can spend time with the selections you are asked to read . . .
  • If you are willing to turn to your Bible and read the verses preceding and following the selections for that Sunday or feast day . . .

Then please sign up for the Ministry of Lector.
