Religious Education

Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD): St. Peter’s Religious Education assists parents with children in grades K-12 in fulfilling their duty and role as the Domestic Church. Our goal is to work with parents to provide an environment that fosters a relationship with the Trinity through prayer, scripture, and Church Tradition. Children will be exposed to scripture, doctrine, various prayer opportunities, small group discussion and activities to help them relate their faith to their daily life. Our programs support the sacramental preparation process for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation. It is important that the parents take an active role in witnessing their own faith to their children through active participation in the sacraments and their own continued faith development.

Catechists

What is a Catechist? The Catechist is a person of faith who leads others in understanding the faith teachings according to the official teachings of the Church, the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The role of the Catechist is a vital ministry to the Church. It is a gift that has tremendous value to the community at large because through the Catechist’s words and actions, the message of Christ continues to have a place in all that people do and think about.

What does a Catechist do? The primary goal of a catechist is to model God’s love to others. As a result, the primary requisite of a catechist is a love for God and a love for children. A catechists develops a lesson plan and uses that plan to teach in the classroom. By creating the lesson plan the catechist ultimately designs and structures experiences for students that help them grow in their personal faith and spirituality. The catechist passes on to students a set of shared meanings and values that are Catholic and Christian.

What is the time commitment? St. Peter’s Religious Education program begins in September and ends in May, meeting once a week on Wednesday evenings. It follows the holiday schedule of Archbold school district. There are approximately 25 weeks of class/instruction.

Sacramental Preparation for Children: Children in the Religious Education program prepare for the celebration of the following sacraments:

  • First Reconciliation (2nd Grade)
  • First Communion (2nd Grade)
  • Confirmation (7th & 8th grades in even years)
